Convention Tips!

Hi there! Happy Monday! Today I have for you something that a lot of bloggers have done before, convention tips. I know it is slightly overused but for each person it's different and you'll always get something new. So here are my favorite tips for convention season, enjoy!

  1. Bring a Bag
    1. Simple, I know, but trust me, you'll thank me later. Think of going to a convention like you're going to a theme park. You're gonna want stuff like a water bottle, snacks, sunscreen, etc. in your bag because it'll give you more time outside than going back to your hotel and getting stuff and it's just easier, especially if you're bringing kids.
    2. Pro Tip: some conventions, like SDCC, will give you those big, graphic bags for free and some vendors will give you those too if you spend a certain amount of money.
  2. Wear the "Proper" Clothing
    1. Again, I know, it's common sense but some people (like the newbies) don't know these things. Wear your walking shoes, dress in clothing that you like to wear and that's comfortable. If you're cosplaying, god bless your soul and good luck.
    2. Pro Tip: For my curvy girls and guys out there with thick thighs, like myself, bring stuff for chub rub. You'll thank me later.
  3. Stay Hydrated
    1. Chances are you won't be taking a ton of breaks because it's a convention, you wanna do stuff (duh), so you'll need to stay hydrated. Bringing a water bottle will be in your favor because you can refill it and save money instead of buying a $5 water bottle in the convention itself. Hydroflasks are also a great investment :) .
  4. Eat
    1. Common sense again but snacks will get you far, especially if you're waiting in line for something. If you do go outside of the convention center to eat, try to stay on the lighter side of the menu so you don't carb crash or go into a food coma.
    2. Pro Tip: Bring more snacks than you'll think you'll need, this way you can share and you'll have more snacks
  5. Be Patient
    1. It happens every convention, some worker or volunteer just doesn't have a good attitude and they come off as snippy or something that rhymes with witchy. Being patient and polite will get you far. Also talking to them about their day and how their doing will benefit both of you in the long run.
  6. Talk to People!
    1. You're at a convention! There's a very good chance that you can find someone that you have a ton in common with! Convention friends are the best because you know someone who's actually there and you can do stuff together! MAKE FRIENDS!
  7. Don't be Afraid to Leave the Convention Center
    1. During a convention, there's always going to be stuff outside the convention center. Don't be afraid to explore a little and see what's out there. I know that during SDCC there's Nerd HQ, the Her Universe Fashion Show, last year the Impractical Jokers had a thing, there'll be shows and a bunch of other stuff. Most of it is free and you won't need a ticket, so if you're the only one with a con badge and you have someone else in your group, go do stuff with them, it's fun and free and you get free stuff sometimes.
  8. Enjoy Where You're At
    1. This is gonna be cheesy but bear with me. Conventions, especially the bigger ones, are something not a lot of people have the privilege of experiencing. Take it all in when you're there because you might not get to go back the next year.
Ok, I'm done with the sappiness. Have fun, be safe, use your noggin, listen to your body, follow your gut, etc. Happy Conning!

Love, Ken
